Apparently, installing TweetDeck which is based on Adobe Air is not as straightforward as I thought so.

1. Download Adobe AIR SDK from Adobe.
2. Create a directory for the SDK. For example, I use
   /opt/air-sdk
3. Unpack the downloaded file there.
4. Create another directory to store your AIR apps, I use
   /opt/air-apps
5. Download TweetDeck from here. You need to manually download from there since you can’t install automatically from the browser.
6. Create a new directory for your TweetDeck in /opt/air-apps. I use
   /opt/air-apps/tweetdeck
7. Move the downloaded TweetDeck file into that directory and use unzip command to unpack it.

You won’t have any problem if you’re running Gnome or KDE as the desktop manager. But if you’re using other than those two, you need to enable either GnomeKeyring (Gnome obviously) or Kwallet (KDE). For example, I use Xfce, so I choose to enable Kwallet from KDE. After installing all the necessary files, I need to be running Kwallet before I can start TweetDeck. Read all about it here.

1. Use this command to run it if you’re already using Gnome or KDE
   /opt/air-sdk/bin/adl -nodebug /opt/air-apps/tweetdeck/META-INF/AIR/application.xml /opt/air-apps/tweetdeck
2. If you’re using Xfce or something other than Gnome or KDE and you’re running Kwallet, use this bash script to run TweetDeck

My household income is more than RM 5,000, can I still apply ?

Even though in the official FAQ, it is said that household income must be RM 5,000 or less, you can still try applying for it. Most TMPoint won’t ask for your household income figure.

Anymore tips ?

If you’re applying for 4 Mbps packages, if it’s possible, please make sure the contractor that is supposed to check your line came in the morning. Testing done during non peak hours would yield better result. If you’re not satisfied with the speed test done by him, try downloading something from big servers such as Rapidshare, Microsoft or Ubuntu. I did my own test in front of him even though he said my line cannot support 4 Mbps by downloading from Rapidshare and the result is totally different (I could achive 4 Mbps based on the average download speed), so, I just subscribe to it anyway.

Can I upgrade from my existing Streamyx?

According to official TM response, it is possible to upgrade smoothly as long as the applicant is eligible. However as our experiences tell, it is not always possible.
Situation 1: The streamyx belongs to an eligible student’s name. Smooth upgrade is possible. No termination, no quarantine, no downtime. Conclusion: GOOD
Situation 2: The streamyx belongs to dad/mom/bro/sis/whoever who is not eligible. Upgrade may NOT possible.

What should I do if I fall into Situation 2?

Solution 1: Terminate both homeline and streamyx. Reapply both again using an eligible student’s name. You will lose your existing phone number but negligible downtime.
Solution 2: Terminate only Streamyx and wait for 30 days quarantine. Then, reapply. Estimated downtime: 1-2 month. Existing phone number unchanged.
Solution 3: Subscribe for another set of homeline and streamyx. You will then have 2 homeline.

What if the existing Streamyx has remaining contract months with TM?

If you fall into Situation 2, you will have to pay the penalty (remaining subscription fees) to terminate, before you can resubscribe Streamyx Cool Uni Pack. Your only possible option is to subscribe for an additional set of homeline and streamyx.

Does it matter if the existing homeline does not belong to the eligible student?

Not a problem. If the homeline isn’t yours, you need to provide photocopied IC and signature of the homeline owner on the application form.

Does early subscriber enjoy RM12 reduction of subscription fee?

All subscriber enjoy the new rate from 1st April 2010.

What is the Netbook model?

How do u get ur netbook?

HP either call u when is it u r free then HP will deliver to ur hse or send email to ur streamyx email or personal email to confirm the delivery date and correspondent address.

Symptoms

1. Everytime you want to view a flash video (from Youtube, CollegeHumour and others), your browser will stop responding. Changing to other browser or updating Adobe Flash wouldn’t work.
2. Using Google Talk in Gmail will also make your browser hang.
3. Google Talk (Windows Edition) would also hang after you started chatting with someone. You can’t also connect back to Google after relaunching it unless you restart your computer.
4. Your volume panel (the one that pops out when you click the speaker icon at the right corner of your desktop) will hang when you want to change your volume level.
5. Skype would also hang and wouldn’t connect back after you’ve restarted the program and the only way you can connect back is by restarting your laptop.

Cause

Most probably because of the sound driver. No one can confirms it yet.

Solution

1. Start Menu > Run > Type ’msconfig’ > OK > Select Startup Tab > Uncheck ‘IDT PC Audio’ > Apply > OK > Reboot PC
2. Control Panel > Sound > Highlight ‘Speakers/Headphones’ > Properties > Select Enhancements tab > Check ‘Disable All Enhancements’ > OK
3. Control Panel > Sound > Highlight ‘Independant (R.T.C) Headphones’ > Properties > Select Enhancements tab > Check ‘Disable All Enhancements’ > OK

1. Windows Client TechCenter

I just upgraded my SDK to Qt SDK 4.6.2 and installed Qt Creator 1.3.1. After running both editors (from the SDK and the one that I installed separately), I noticed that I’m getting blank pages in my help. I can’t search for any documentation. However, I can open the help file manually from the terminal (won’t work if your Qt is not in the PATH).

Anyway, to solve it, we just need to point the the correct help file.

1. Open your Qt Creator.
2. Go to Tools > Options…
3. Open the Documentation section.
   
4. Clear everything you have in the list of Registered Documentation.
5. Now, we must add all the help files back. The help files should be ending with .qch as the extension. Click Add… and browse to the directory where the help files are located.

Story

I was downloading some movies references from the Internet. I left it to download for overnight since it was a very big file (around 4.48 GB). When I checked it in the morning, I found out that the download stopped working after a few hours I left it. Flashget says it cannot write to the hardisk anymore. Furthermore, the bluetooth suddenly stopped working and I’m having a hardtime running anything. I can’t even shutdown the PC properly as if there’s no memory left even though I’m not running any software at all. After a few times trying, I managed to open Task Manager and it comfirms that something went wrong and every memory I have is being used by something and cannot be killed.

Symptoms

Windows hang, hardisk LED blinking non stop, can’t even shutdown properly, can’t launch any new programs, Bluetooth stopped working and so on

Cause(s)

Who knows, Microsoft said it was the third party antivirus and firewall programs (in this particular case is Eset NOD32) even though that antivirus works fine in other Windows version

Solutions

1. Uninstall Eset NOD32 Antivirus and install something else for your protection.
2. Uninstall Windows 7 and start using Open Source OS such as the almighty Ubuntu Slackware.
3. Install this fix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979223 (works for me).
